I stayed for four nights at Chalet Ambel in May 2025 and paid ￡307 for bed and breakfast. The accommodation is OK and the staff (who spoke limited English) were helpful, and friendly. The Chalet comprises a series of beach bungalows set in pleasant grounds with little paths, flowers and trees. There is a beach bar/restaurant serving meals and drinks throughout the day. When I visited (driving from Tirana airport) the Llogara tunnel was closed, so I had to take the difficult mountain pass road which made the journey time about 4.5 hours. Across the road is a broad wide sandy/pebbly beach with sun loungers and shades. My room (101) was large with a double bed and one single bed. The bathroom with a shower, washbasin and toilet was brand new and spotless. The room was serviced daily and had two easy chairs, a flat screen TV, air conditioning, hanging space for clothes and a table and two chairs outside. There was also a small fridge. The wi-fi was fast and reliable throughout the property. It would have been even better if my room had a kettle, a complimentary bottle of water and a bedside lamp. Breakfast was a choice of coffee, toast, cheese and jam – or a cooked breakfast of sausages, fried eggs etc. I tried both! I wish the breakfast coffee had not cost extra when I asked for a second cup though. I ate my evening meals at Chalet Ambel and found the food basic but adequate. My only negative comments are these: 1. It was hard to find the place – even with Google maps. I was directed down several roads that were uneven and then blocked by construction. So much of Albania is affected by construction at the moment. I wonder how this location will change in the next few years. All around the chalet apartments and new hotels were being built. 2. The local ATM’s either did not work or refused to give money on my UK Nationwide debit card. Although Chalet Ambel took credit cards, most local supermarket shops did not. So, get local currency before you visit. I was grateful that the manager of Chalet Ambel changed a 20 Euro note into Albanian lek. Thank you! 3. The beach area is scruffy. There are abandoned sun loungers, broken shades, rubble and other rubbish. The whole area needs a proper clean up! Without the scruffiness, the beach would be fantastic - it is mainly pebble with clear blue seas and is good for swimming and sunbathing.

Magical place! It brings the feeling of the beach house dream that many of us long to feel again and you can rarely find in the touristy places full of big tall buildings/ hotels. Rooms are spacious enough for the beddings and very aesthetic, including the bathroom. Each room is like a small house with its own balcony with sea view. Cleanliness is top (they clean it every day and bring white clean towels). The staff was so kind to me and children. Highly recommend it!

The best restaurant in the area. Simple, but with a great view and amazing food. All fruits and vegetables are farm to table and taste amazing. Service 10/10; really kind and always responsive. They also offered us a complementary fruit salad at the end. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
