Hotel spotless, room comfortable and staff absolutely lovely. So friendly, cheerful and nothing was too much trouble

Very nice hotel. Comfortable room with all mod cons. Good reception service. Excellent bathroom with rain shower. Liked the underfloor heating! Breakfast was very good too.

Beautifully decorated and styled hotel with a cosy, warm welcome. We were advised the old part of the building, immediately behind reception, was once The Bay Horse Public House. Comfortable, clean rooms with efficient heating, fantastic showers and excellent complimentary services (Nespresso machines and good teas and biscuits!). In spite of the beauty of the place by far the best thing was the friendly, helpful, caring staff. From reception staff always eager to make your stay better to the excellent breakfast chef who makes fantastic poached eggs! A definite winner!

We stayed for one night on 20th Dec 2025. Our second visit. As on our previous visit an enjoyable experience. A very nice, comfortable and interesting building. The bedroom was large and comfortable with a huge bed. The breakfast was very enjoyable. The staff are professional, welcoming and friendly.

Room was good. I'd booked a ground floor room but when we arrived we were given first floor room, my wife is disabled and can't do stairs . We had booked evening meal at Fence Gate in Inn for 4 people. We had poor service and the quantity and quality of food served was disappointing . The table was not cleared of empty glasses and drinks where very slow being served. Breakfast was far too salty.

Lovely find. Location was perfect for visiting family. Excellent room and delicious breakfast. All staff excellent,friendly and courteous.

After having a couple of days to recover and recount tales with friends and loved ones, I've finally found time to give an honest review of Fence Gate Lodge - Centre Piece Wedding Package (October 2025). Myself and my wife had been a couple for many (MANY) years and we weren't looking for a huge wedding, just a small one with the people we consider to be our close family and friends. When we came across Fence Gate Lodge, we were blown away by the vintage aesthetic, but with a real 'modern' feel. We'd shopped around like most people would, and went to many larger venues, but many felt like rundown venues that had lost their appeal in the glory years left behind them. All the rooms at Fence Gate Lodge are fantastic, of course we stayed in the honeymoon suite but I'm a modest chap and would have been happy with just a 'classic' suite, they are that nice. I did have some scepticisms heading in. Not with the venue or the staff, just because the Lodge is still in it's infancy, and there isn't an awful lot of reviews to go on. When you're parting with a large amount of cash, it's only natural to feel slightly dubious. Another doubt was where exactly were we going to get all these pictures taken, in such a small venue... But please allow this review to cast those doubts aside. On the 17th Oct 2025, myself, my wife, our children, our family members and friends... had the best day ever! The staff couldn't do any more for us, and I felt a genuine want from all them to make the day as great as they could make it. Like most husbands, I didn't do anywhere near the groundwork that my wife and her mother put in, so I was able to sit back, soak it all up and enjoy it for what it was. I must have lost my car keys seven times, each time returned to me with a smile. Every member of staff went out of their way to mention how beautiful my wife looked. We are modest people and we aren't the sort of people to expect (or want) hardworking people to bow to our every step, but I did really appreciate the genuine nature of the compliments. Of course, like most events there is the odd thing here or there that can go missing or forgotten, or the timing not always being perfect (our fault) but nothing was irredeemable and the evening was as close to perfect as you could imagine. I'd like to thank all the staff for their efforts and I would certainly recommend this venue for an ideal, intimate wedding package. Many thanks, Rob & Liz

Beautiful accommodation. Lovely surroundings. Lots to do. We loved every minute. The staff were outstanding. From Kristy’s welcome when we arrived to the exceptional service in The Fence Gate Inn, we felt welcome and cared for. It was quite nice having a little walk each evening to the pub for our evening meal. Daniel and Karina were absolutely incredible. They were so attentive and professional. You could see the high standard of training amongst all the staff as they worked the space. The food was also impressive with an excellent choice of wines. We are already looking forward to returning for another little break.

Great relaxing stay.
The rooms were fresh and nicely decorated, the bed was very comfortable and relaxing. The bathroom was very well designed with a great shower and twin sinks.
The breakfast was amazing with fresh products and great locally sourced ingredients for the cooked option.
