Friendly management, with very clean facilities. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in Hamner . It is only a ferry short 3 minute walk to the pools , with great views from the up stairs rooms. After a minor noise complaint , due to inconsiderate guests , I was offered compensation - otherwise very happy . I would definately book this place again .

This lodge went beyond our expectations, and is great value for money. We had a family room with kitchen/bathroom with a power shower, just perfect. The downstairs lounge with the crackling fireplace & music was very inviting and was a great way to meet some of the other friendly guests, a few of whome could play the courtesy guitar quite well. Five stars, we'll be back!

What a great stay! Excellent location and the views of the mountains are stunning. So clean and well looked after :) very cute & cosy vibes from the whole experience. We had a double bed which was super comfy. Staff are lovely - so helpful, nothing too much trouble! Lots of information about the area and things to do etc.

Liked · 4th visit here, and every time I am amazed at how clean, fresh and tidy the entire property, inside and out, is. The beds are comfy, the kitchen spotless. I must admit, it has always been summertime visits - so haven't had the opportunity to test the heat of the inviting looking woodburned in the main foyer area. But I can gather over winter ski season this would be amazing. The hosts are a friendly family, who obviously take great pride in presenting their business to what I could call The Gold-Standard for cleanliness and comfort. Towels are available for those in dorms for a small fee ($2.00 as at Feb 2025) and are provided free of charge for those in private rooms. Bicycles are available for hire at a reasonable cost (booking needed) and there is also an on-site watch repair available. There is also a nice outdoor bbq area, including tables etc to sit and soak up the sun. It's a casual 10-minute stroll to the famous hot-pools, and the township with many restaurants, bars and cafes. Hanmer Springs has much to offer, and Kakapo Lodge is where you can relax and unwind afterwards at a price that is budget friendly ?? I am certianly happy to rebook here at any opportunity, and can highly recommend this facility ???? Disliked · Sandflies/mozzies - be sure to bring repellent as Hanmer Springs has lots of these little suckers ??

Lovely! Close to town and walking distance to everything. I accidentally booked the wrong dates and the staff were so kind and moved things around so we had room to stay overnight! Very kind, clean and cute outdoor areas. Would recommend staying here

Really loved this hostel, the owners/staff were really helpful and friendly and easy going. Our room and bathroom was spotless. The shared kitchen was always clean. The fire in the shared space was lit and it was cosy. So nice and close to the shops and hot pools (about a two min walk). Would come back!

It was an amazing experience only a five minute walk away from anything, the pools or the fairy doors. They have a big tv lounge on the second floor and a amazing lobby with a keyboard, guitar and a computer. The kitchen is huge and really feels like the amazing camps we went on as kids. I loved it and will come back again.

From the time you arrive the first thing is the friendly welcome and the cleanliness from your room to the kitchen and bathroom facilities, the owners are super helpful. Staying at kakapo lodge is great value and all guests the we met were all like minded. The lodge is situated within easy walking distance of the pools and the rest of the town, it is the best value for money ever.

James and his family were exceedingly good hosts! The lodge was clean and run with a relaxed air of efficiency! Beds were super comfortable! Heating was superb and the fire in longe was always on! Kitchen well equipped and organised brilliantly, urn always on. Probably one of the best budget accommodation places I have ever stayed at! I highly recommend!!

A great find this was!! Very clean facilities in great location with snow covered mountain views. The hosts were warm and friendly great service. Surprisingly big room with cook top, an extremely comfortable bed. Lovely welcoming fire in the foyer. Excellent all round.
