My wife and I had been very much looking forward to going and having a stay and some food at The Auldgirth Inn for many years, however when she called to make a booking and asked some very simple questions about prices and room options she was greeted by a very blunt man who sounded like he was driving and would only give yes and no answers with awkward pauses in between !, the gentleman on the other end of the phone really sounded like he just couldn’t be bothered to talk and didn’t engage in the call at all. This unfortunately has put us off from ever staying. First impressions really are important and the front of house staff have really let The Auldgirth Inn down in this instance.

We used this as a stopover and it was very pleasant. The evening meal was very good indeed, and it's worth going just for that.

We were impressed with this place. Externally it looks well maintained and has good parking. The interior is atmospheric and the restaurant food is superb. Our room was large and comfortable although there was only one chair. The bed was also large and very comfortable indeed. In fact our only criticism would be the shower set up in the bathroom (which seems to be a theme in our reviews). Although the fittings in the bathroom were modern as was the decor, the shower itself was in a cramped cubicle with no surfaces to rest soap or shampoo. This was because of the sizable bath we presume. We really doubt whether nowadays there is much demand for baths. We think that people are looking for good sized walk in showers or wet rooms. The staff were unfailingly courteous and efficient.

For what you pay this should be a fabulous little place but sadly it falls down all over the place. The quality of the fitments is bad. The bathroom looks as though it is a DIY job and is across the hall so not ensuite The room was OK but cheap furnishings and lightbulb missing. Breakfast was average but the service was slapdash. I would not return. Shame as location wise it is nice.

If you’re a foodie, this is the destination for you. The warmest welcome and stunning food in a beautiful, historic building. A superb place for a meal and stop over. Louise is an attentive host and you just haven’t lived until you’ve eaten an Auldgirth haggis scotch egg. The quality and variety of steaks available is great and they are cooked to the highest standard. My gluten free requirements were catered with ease and I really didn’t feel I missed out because the quality of the gluten free menu items was tip top. Breakfast was delicious - but difficult to squeeze in after such an amazing meal the night before. If you want to treat yourself to a night away in a peaceful location with great food and drink, this is the place to come to. Highly recommend.

Definitely not to be missed. We had the pleasure of staying 2 nights in July. We ate in the restaurant Saturday night and Sunday lunch. We had some of the best food we have ever had. The steak my husband had was simply amazing, he couldn’t fault it at all. The staff were absolutely brilliant. We will definitely make Auldgirth Inn a must do on our next trip to Scotland. We could not fault a thing.

This hotel is a little gem! Our room was lovely, clean and spacious. Although its just off the main road, the road noise was minimal. We ate in the restaurant and it was fabulous. Their dry aged steaks are amazing. Well worth a trip. Highly recommended.

Had a lovely weekend staying here with friends. We were met by Louise when we first arrived and she was so lovely and friendly throughout our stay as were all the staff. Lovely cozy room and we felt nice and relaxed all weekend. Great food in both the restaurant and bar. We Would highly recommend a visit.

Stayed for one night after three days wild camping and foraging in Galloway. Auldgirth was the perfect end to this trip. Lovely comfortable room, fabulous bathroom.....we needed a bath & it was big enough for two....very friendly & helpful staff & a wonderful meal in the excellent restaurant. Perfect.
