5-7/7/24 Mostar Deny Rooms We three middle aged guys from London booked in in advance from Sarajevo the day before. It was the cheapest we could find at 63km a night. Anywhere in the centre was very expensive. The lobby was adorned with past accolades from TA. A friendly middle aged guy welcomed us with a home made raki in the garden whilst we filled in the forms. He was missing the Euros Germany v Spain football playing upstairs (which his (famous) son Deny was watching so he never appeared). He encouraged us to finish the bottle which we politely refused as it was early although it was good quality! We paid by cash the 142mk for the two nights including an unexpected city tax (not specified on Bcom). He then showed us a big ground floor room by the reception, it seemed clean and the A/C was welcome in the heat of the day. It worked well when necessary and was new and silent. There were two single beds and a single bunk bed with orange fitted sheets (hurrah!) and a folded thin sheet and small towel on each. There was a big Sony SmartTV with Netflix on the separate STB but no analogue or digital aeriel so we could not watch anything apart from clunky YouTube searches. We disconnected the TV and STB to release some sockets. There were plenty of sockets anyway near the beds for devices so satisfying the younger travelers. An old style small fridge was a bit grubby but worked fine and included a tiny freezing compartment (with no door so it was partially iced up). There was no microwave which would have been useful. A cabinet by it had a kettle with complimentary herbal teas and coffee and a useful kitchen roll. Inside the cabinet was a selection of cutlery and crockery but no bread knife, corkscrew or bottle opener unfortunately. More surfaces would have helped on top of the bedside tables, fridge and cabinet, especially if four were occupying the room. The bedside tables would have benefitted with another shelf each. There were lockers provided but no keys, maybe because we were three booking together in the four bed dorm? The potted plant by the TV may have harboured flies so it was sprayed as we were badly eaten in Sarajevo. The window was high up with diaphenous curtains so we feared a blinding sunrise. The bed was comfortable anyway and we slept well, unbitten and not blinded by the morning light. The shower was hot if the immersion heater was put on well beforehand, a useful bottle of coconut shower gel had been left behind or provided for us to use. The sink was small and under a big round mirror. The lighting was just about ok for shaving (a socket by big mirror could have a plug-in lamp to help). The tap pressure was good for jetting out my razor. There were a few long hairs under the sink, definitely not ours! The toilet needs some deep cleaning too with the seat and lid adjusted forward so they do not collapse/close when lifted up and released.
