We stayed here for two nights and Iain was a great host, The breakfast was superb and set us up for our day exploring, our two spaniels were made very welcome & were even offered doggi breakfast too, absolute gem of a place with instant access to Rydal Cave from the rear garden and up to Loughrigg Fell, will definitely return.

Superb Ian thank you! Room was nice and warm. Breakfast was lovely. Very personable experience. We chose this place because we did the Fairfield Horseshoe hike. Best location. Pub down the road is not far and this is great too. Parking is good. Will come again. Atb Bob and Matt.

We had an a great experience at this Lodge. Perfect location beside Rydal Water and the Loughrigg Fell which are amazing walks around the Lakes. Ian was a wonderful, good natured host who makes the best full English breakfast. He offered us useful information that helped us decide what walks to do in the area. I highly recommend Rydal lodge if you are looking for an 18th century style lodge with a beautiful garden and a very nice dinning room. It felt like home.

Rydal Lodge is great. We spent New Year there again and absolutely loved it - and plan to return pretty soon. The Lodge has loads of character with a range of different sized and comfortable rooms, a great breakfast and is located in the perfect location for discovering the many beautiful locations in this part of the Lake District. Ian, the manager, is brilliant, really helpful and responsive to any requests.

We had a wonderful mini break at Rydal Lodge. Such a beautiful setting and lots of nearby walks and you can hop on the bus to Ambleside. Ian was a wonderful host and went out of his way to ensure our vegan dietary needs were fully catered for. Bert the pug was made welcome and loved his stay. It's an excellent small friendly walkers hotel. Beautiful grounds and building. Just as I remembered as I stayed as a child in 1973 and it was my favourite childhood holiday. Thank you Ian and see you next year.

I booked a few days stay at the Lodge for my sons Wedding at a nearby venue. The Lodge was ideal in terms of distance from the venue, Rydal church and hall. The proprietor was so helpful. Excellent breakfasts, and a comfortable bed. The only criticism, and it isn't that important, is the fact that the decoration is in need of a freshen up. Other than that an excellent B and B.

We stayed in the Rothay Suite which was very clean, bright and spacious with lovely views of the beautiful garden and the river beyond. The location of the property is fabulous as a starting point for many walks and is only a few minutes drive to the lovely town of Ambleside which has many good places to eat. The beautiful Rydal Water is just two minutes walk from the bottom of the garden and is one of the most picturesque lakes. As well as the walk around this lake, there are several walks that can be done directly from the property, including the walk up Loughrigg Fell with spectacular views of Grasmere. Our host lain explained all the walks to us on arrival and also cooked us a delicious breakfast each morning. Our dog was also made very welcome and had his own breakfast sausage cooked for him in the mornings.

My friends and I had a great stay at Rydal Lodge. Iain the owner gave us a warm welcome and was very helpful and accommodating, ensuring our stay was pleasant and comfortable. Since we missed breakfast on the first morning, Iain kindly sorted out some croissants and sandwiches for us. The Rooms are good as is the cooked breakfast. The location is excellent. Ambleside can be reached in 5 minutes by car. There are some nice walks right from the doorstep of the lodge. Rydal Water and Rydal Cave are very close by. I would stay here again without hesitation and can highly recommend giving the place a go.

Returned to a warm welcome from Helena & Mark, & a super Easter Week 2023 in the Bunk-room at Rydal Lodge in April. The room is en-suite with toiletries provided & also comfortably & thoughtfully equipped with amenities ie; fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster & hairdryer. As always it was spotlessly clean. Breakfast is available as an option. There is a library & snug with a Honesty Bar. Parking is available on site. The beautiful gardens slope down to River Rothay & is a few minutes walk to Rydal Water, The Cave & Rydal Mount & Hall. There is plenty of advice & maps provided by the hosts. Thank you to Mark & Helena who made sure I had a great stay... not least providing advice, support & diagnosing car troubles when Green Flag let me down badly! Looking forward to a return soon. Proximity to Ambleside & Grasmere & a super bus service (Stagecoach) enables one to get to areas of interest, superb walks, restaurants, Art & Craft Galleries, Cinema & also to the outlying towns & lakes. Several popular walks for all abilities are available. The Badger Bar opposite provides evening meals & in fact also has a Badger feeding & viewing area!
