We stayed at this traditional hotel in Takayama for two nights whilst we were travelling around Japan, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff are welcoming and friendly, and our room, which was decorated and furnished in a traditional Japanese style, was very comfortable. We enjoyed having the kimono and slippers to wear whilst we were in the hotel too. We had a Kaiseki-style dinner served in our room on one night, and our breakfast both mornings. The food was delicious, and the process of the server setting the table, serving the courses, and explaining the dishes to us was fascinating and enjoyable. We used the onsen a couple of times whilst we were there, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We’d already visited an onsen, so we knew the etiquette, and the facilities were very clean and well-maintained, as you’d expect. Takayama is a reasonably small town, and very walkable. The hotel is very well located for all the sights you’d want to see, and for the shops, markets, and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, and would recommend it if you’re staying in Takayama.

We stayed for 2 nights at Ryokan Tanabe as part of a 2 week tour of Japan. The Ryokan is a 90 year old traditional Japanese inn. The rooms are tatami mat, with futons on the floor, and all the rituals of traditional Japanese life. Bathing is i the onsen, public baths in the hot springs. Service was absolutely excellent, and the ryokan had a really homely and cosy feels, in part because of the narrow passages and screened rooms of the traditional Japanese building. We had dinner both nights in the ryokan, with a big array of classic Japanese dishes, beautifully presented. Absolutely delicious. An experience ot to be missed.

La struttura si trova in un paesino bellissimo, dove si respira aria di serenità, non mi sentivo così riposata da parecchio tempo. All’entrata bisogna levarsi le scarpe, e si viene accolti da un caloroso benvenuto dalle receptionist, che nell’arco di 10 minuti fa il check in e ti porta ( a noi donne ) a scegliere il kimono per la cena ( occhio è in omaggio/affitto solo per il soggiorno, non si può portare a casa) . Ci accompagna alle stanze già pronte alle ore 13! Stanze bellissime, grandi, tipiche, profumavano di pulito!! Hanno al loro interno anche le onsen rigorosamente separate uomo/ donna ma con permesso di accesso senza problemi o restrizioni a chi ha i tatuaggi come me! Hanno anche l’area fumatori al piano terra. Il soggiorno è stato qualcosa di fantastico, avevamo due signore che ci hanno servito sia alla cena ( la più anziana) che alla colazione che sono state veramente gentili e carine, le porterò sempre nel mio cuore! Unica pecca sono gli orari della cena, in quanto l’ultimo orario erano le 18.45. La colazione era tipicamente sushi/ noodles ma senza alcuna paura ci siamo fatti forza e abbiamo assaporato la colazione giapponese ( buona e saziante) Altra piccola pecca, le ciabatte comuni. Avrei magari messo su ogni ciabatta il numero di stanza o fatto delle ciabatte monouso. Per il resto nulla da dire, esperienza che io e il mio compagno ( che ha festeggiato lì ) porteremo sempre con noi

We stayed at Ryokan Tanabe for two nights . Room was clean and well presented if slightly jaded. Dinner and breakfast was included. Service was good and friendly, the evening meals, kaiseki (8 courses) were served in our room and were well presented with the added element of you cooking one of the courses over a heated burner. Breakfast was typical Japanese (so fishy). Because you eat in your room once the meal is over a team of housekeeping come in to set your futon/make them up. They also come 15 mins before breakfast which (as the latest breakfast is 7:45) means being up and organised which I found slightly invasive. The ryokan is well sited for the centre of Takayama and a 10 min walk from the station. It’s a good experience if you want to do a Ryokan in Takayama.

Perfetto struttura ben curata in stile giapponese. Camere spaziose, la cena tipica è spaziale il pesce fresco ben trattato nulla di negativo.

L’accoglienza promette già un soggiorno perfetto con the e sake offerti alla reception, dove si possono scegliere al momento gli yukata meravigliosi con cui noi siamo anche andati in giro (avvertiti che eravamo praticamente in pigiama). La stanza è spaziosa in stile giapponese, due origami ci aspettavano sul tavolo insieme al the di benvenuto. La sera, dopo cena, abbiamo fatto un bagno rilassante nell’onsen fornito di tutto quello che è necessario (adorabili le due tinozze di acqua tiepida all’esterno). Mio marito ha anche apprezzato la più bella area fumatori mai vista. L’abbondante colazione al mattino ci ha stupito con i suoi numerosi piattini, l’unico appunto da fare è che avremmo voluto un po’ più di tempo per poterla gustare! La posizione è comodissima a due passi dal centro storico di Takayama, Abbiamo anche approfittato del servizio di lavanderia a pagamento (per non dover perdere tempo nelle lavanderie automatiche). Tornerei domani se fosse possibile!

La nostra esperienza al Tanabe é stata bellissima. Abbiamo apprezzato tutto a partire dall'accoglienza , la cena e la colazione. La struttura é molto bella e caratteristica. Ottima la posizione per visitare la bellissima Takayama.

Si se viaja a Japón es prácticamente obligatorio dormir ni que sea una noche en un ryokan. En Ryokan Tanabe encontraréis lo más típico de los alojamientos típicos japoneses para una experiencia completa: futones, cena y desayuno tradicional japonés y onsen. Vale la pena.

Twice I’ve stayed here, way back in 2018 and 2023, I’m part of a group, and this is the hotel/ryokan they used, in 2018, as a solo, I like the room but I more like it when in 2023, I traveled with my sister and the room they gave as, were so beautiful like a single home..the only thing is, you have to use a real key, it’s not digital but the bathroom were modern western style…the foods? So delicious!! I’m so happy that the travel agency use their ryokan for their clients..there is a onsen too in the facility but none in your room..it run by generation family members..the ryokan is walking distance from the JR station..and also close to the main center of attraction..
