I stay here once a year when I visit family. Its a beautiful place to stay. Fantastic location. My only complaint would be is that I never want to leave. Breakfast is also great. Along with friendly staff.

I stayed here one night with business colleagues after a dinner event at St John's. It was a good stay - I was in the Stables area across the yard but it should be noted this is not step free access. The room was lovely albeit rather dark and applying makeup was not easy. The bathroom was extremely tiny - it just had a shower but it was functional and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and I slept well. I had a private terrace but didn't sit out in December ! My car was parked almost directly outside which was a bonus. The dinner we had - all pre-ordered - was lovely and the same for the breakfast next morning, an extremely attentive waiter and the most delicious cheese and mushroom omelette. I would most definitely stay here again, I would just ask for better lighting at the dressing table and a full length mirror.

A good sized and imposing hotel located in a very convenient position just outside the town centre, so you’re away from any noise but it’s still only a few minute’s walk to all the bars and restaurants. There is plenty of off-street parking at the rear, and our room was ready even though we had arrived somewhat earlier than the designated check-in time. Check in was prompt and efficient, but could have been a little friendlier perhaps. We opted for St Johns Room, and this was a very good size, with the bathroom being equally as large as the bedroom. It was all clean and tidy, but felt as though it was showing it’s age a little and could perhaps do with some TLC – a saggy ceiling, cracks around the window and a bashed wall where the door handle had crashed in to it, for example. The bathroom had a bath in the centre of the room as well as a walk-in shower, sofa, arm-chair, pouffe, and a large work desk made of marble. You could easily have fitted a whole family in there. In contrast the loo was stuck in a very small cubicle in the corner, although with the sofa and desks in there, I suppose some further privacy is needed. The shower was powerful enough, but very tricky to adjust the temperature. You basically had a choice of freezing cold or scalding hot, with the minutest change on the control knob switching from one to the other. The bedroom was at the back of the house and we slept well, with no noise from either inside or out. Breakfast was all ordered to your table rather than a help yourself buffet, and choice was perhaps a little restricted with no cold meat and cheese or fruit salad, for example. That said, my Granola with Greek yoghurt, honey and a berry compote was very good indeed, as were the Eggs Benedict. Overall, pretty good, and I’d happily stay again if visiting Lichfield.

This was my first visit to St John's House and I really loved it, from the friendly welcome at the reception desk to the friendly farewell at checkout. I stayed in Holmes in the stable block, which is one of the nicest, best-equipped single rooms I've ever stayed in - I was sorry I was in Lichfield on a business trip and had to go out for the evening! So stylish and comfortable. Breakfast next morning was really delicious - the best eggs benedict I've had for a long time, with crispy bacon and a nice crisp muffin - so rare! Piping hot, good coffee and one slice of brown toast as requested, not a whole rackful that would go to waste. And all very good value for a freelance business traveller on a tight budget. Thank you!

Such a beautiful building. We stayed in the peacock room. Lovely touches. Homemade cookies each day and fresh milk for tea and coffee. When we stayed it was quite warm but the fan provided was perfect. Location was excellent and parking was a bonus as it can be tricky in some cities. We had a lovely breakfast so just didn’t want to leave! Lichfield is beautiful and we would like to revisit and I know exactly where we will be staying. The peacock room in St John’s house

Lovely hotel with eclectic interior. Courtyard parking. Our room The Peaks was comfortable & clean. Personal touches home made delicious biscuits, boiled sweets, tea & coffee machine with separate coffee & tea cups, bath robes, toiletries & shower cap. Friendly & polite staff. The breakfast room was beautiful, table settings the same our chosen breakfast- yogurt, fruit compote, berries , homemade honeyed granola. Full English with obvious quality products, including a Staffordshire oatcake. Toasted Sourdough bread, marmalade & jam - all delicious. The hotel accommodated our early morning departure leaving cereals, milk, fruit juice & fruit and our late evening arrival. Convenient for bus & train station & local eateries.

We booked a one-night stay last minute to break up our journey from north to south and it turned out to be a great find. The building is charming and beautifully furnished. It's very close to the town centre and has the benefit of on-site parking. Our bedroom was in the annex, the stables, which was quiet as it didn't face the main road. The furnishings were unique and there were some nice touches, like homemade biscuits and a jar of sweets. Only issue with the room was the beams, one especially, which forced me to bend to one side every time I walked around the bed! The bathroom was modern and the shower was good. Lichfield itself is a great historical place to visit, Cathedral with three spires, parkland, river, lots of independent shops, many good restaurants.

Fabulous stay in the Terrace room in the Stables at St Johns House, room had everything that we needed, good sized bathroom, fridge, tea/coffee/biscuits, outside terrace and with a bed that was very comfortable for a good nights sleep. Breakfast in the morning was served in the main house, very good choice of items with excellent service from James.

Excellent venue. Attended a family funeral wake yesterday, and the location, room, and service were very good. The selection at the buffet was lovely and of great quality. The sausage rolls were fab. Lovely selection of cakes also on offer. Good staff. Well done Thanks alan and sharon
