A lovely little spot heading into the peaks. Outdoor area prefect for when the weather allows but if not a cosy and comfortable area within. Food is tasty, service excellent … what more could you ask for!

Went as part of a group for our Christmas do. I really wish I hadn’t. Starter of smoked salmon and prawns with melon tasted strange. Whatever the pink sauce was, it wasn’t Marie Rose. The melon was unripe and the prawns were only partially thawed, with ice crystals in them. Potentially dangerous. The lamb chops were very fatty, and the fat hadn’t been rendered at all, so was white and raw. Others in the group had to ask for a sharp knife to cut through the meat. Very meagre vegetables - the sprouts were soft and watery. Adding a few pieces of cut up bacon didn’t fool anyone that the sprouts have been cooked in any way other than boiled to oblivion. I couldn’t face a dessert. Decaf coffee was vile and undrinkable .

Enjoyed a sunday carvery after xmas for family of 4. Food was all hot, plenty of choice in the carvery and well seasoned. Staff polite and chatty. We made sure to book a table, good location for walkers. Would recommend.

We arrived on a cold, wet afternoon to a welcoming roaring fire. Our dining area was just near the bar but out of the way of other customers. The service was well organisied and efficient in a timely manner. The food was the best bit, no-one went home hungry. Salmon and crayfish starter was plentiful, excellent start. This was followed by a full Turkey Christmas dinner, wow, lots to go round, turkey was excellent, just all of it was yummy, served with extra jugs of thick gravy, you excelled there! The desserts were following the same theme, large protions and excellent quality. We were left alone afterwards to host our own quiz and leave when we were ready, no rush. We were early for our Christmas Party with it being 15th November, but nothing was a problem, well done all, RECOMMENDED!!

Popped in for a drink and a piece of cake. The staff were helpful and the coffee and cake good. The ramp down from the car park is a little steep for a wheelchair user or the infirm, but given the age of the building probably inevitable.

Had a meal here a couple of nights ago and quality of food was not as good as previous meals. Pie had mushy content and fish cakes, again, mushy inside. Had better fishcakes from Aldi. Definitely not worth what they charge.

Though they seem to be targeting weddings as their main market, this old and full of character hotel provides a perfect summer stop-over. The spacious outside dining area is perfect for a warm evening and the standard of cuisine way exceeded our expectations. The place is on a main road but don't let that put you off. The location is otherwise beautifully rural, though handy for Ashbourne, and good double glazing ensured a peaceful night's sleep. When I thought I'd left behind my car keys, Michelle on reception made me feel if they were in the hotel, she would certainly find them!! And was perfectly charming when I rang later, extremely embarrassed, to say they turned up in my luggage.

Lovely setting, really nice inside and out. Great service. Had a lovely lunch here today, but unusually portions were small.

Met friends here for dinner whilst on holiday in the Peak District. Food is available all day which is a great when you are out and about. Really delicious steak and salmon, well presented and good value. Returned on the Sunday for lunch for just two - quite late for lunch, 4.30pm but food was still really fresh and well presented. Lovely garden, dogs allowed in bar and garden area. Staff efficient and helpful. Plenty of parking.
