Roast potatoes under done, boiled then roasted for too short a time, covered with lashings of tasteless gravy, no option given although I don’t like gravy on my food. When I brought this to the servers attention nothing was offered or done. Seated on a table looking into the kitchen watching the chief plate up my food with his hands. All in all a very disappointing Sunday lunch.

The Flag In Wivenhoe has just re-opened this week. We went in for a family meal last night & the place is beautiful . The decor, attention to detail and stunning new outside garden makes the place feel warm and welcoming. There is a lovely selection of meals on the menu with special daily offered on a separate menu Monday -Thursday. We had a great meal and our waiter had been well trained. He was polite. Knew the menu well and was very professional. We will be returning again

Easter Monday family birthday meal at the newly reopened Flag Inn. The menu, decor and staff are all lovely. Food was carefully presented and dietary needs considered attentively. Hope they change the menu regularly to keep fresh interest as we would love to come back soon.

We had a lovely meal last night at the flag. We were a large group which is never easy for the kitchen. We did have a couple of small issues (down to technical issues) but were quickly and professionally dealt with and didn't have a negative effect on our night. The food is amazing, a beautiful place and great cocktails. We live locally and are so glad to have this fantastic restaurant on our doorstep.

My most recent experience of The Flag sadly involved a family funeral. Principal mourners stayed in the hotel's accommodation and without exception reported excellent facilities and comfort. The Monday evening saw 33 family and friends served a pre-ordered meal which again was seen to be faultless - efficient friendly staff made the evening an occasion for happy memories. Food was excellent and drinks were served efficiently and speedily. A post-funeral reception for 80 people was held on the Tuesday afternoon and past off without a hitch with attenders able to mingle effectively. The organisation of the entire funeral was made so much easier by by prompt and coherent responses to the many queries that arose. My wife and I had enjoyed many meals at The Flag since it re-opened and so it was natural to choose it for her funeral wake and reception. The staff didn't let us down - she would have so enjoyed it!

Smooth check in, very warm and friendly landlord. He showed me up to the room and talked me through the code to get in from outside. I've lived in Wivenhoe before so didn't need any local info.
The room was very small with one small window up high, and a low bed. This made me feel quite boxed in. It was warm and clean but every few minutes a door slammed downstairs making the whole room shake.
I didn't know there would be no breakfast in the restaurant, and was quite looking forward to having humans around me on Christmas morning. Instead I found a tray of cold pastries and fruit outside my room. This made me feel isolated. If you're going to charge ￡116 for a room, please do make it better value for money. I paid the same for an amazing room with free mini bar and amazing breakfast at Greyfriars ! All in all, A nice place but way overpriced for what it is.

Our first time at the Flag We have a lovely afternoon meal We shared a grazing board Then The flat iron steak with Café de Paris sauce with fries… it was all delicious .. beautifully presented. The decor is lovely, it’s really warm and comfortable the staff were attentive and friendly.. it’s my new fav place to eat ??

Booked this hotel last minute. On arrival I was met by Hannah who was absolutely amazing. Showed me to my room and made sure i had everything I needed. When I asked about where to eat, Hannah did not say straight away in our restaurant but she explained all the places around this location. What I liked was she didn’t give bad review on any of them. For that reason I decided to eat in the restaurant of the hotel. Wow glad I did, absolutely amazing. I had the ribs to start, beautiful and the slaw was the best. For my mains I had the crispy belly pork. What can I say, this was another level. It was one of the best meals I have had this year. I met Aron the chief afterwards and what a gentleman. Aron’s food is incredible. Highly recommend his food. Food and accommodation is first class. 10/10 on both.

Excellent pub, could not fault anything!! Staff were super friendly and the room was immaculate.

Excellent food, smart and comfortable surroundings. My wife and daughter had the excellent home-made Flag burger and I had a really good Eggs Benedict. A superb, again home-made, Apple & Blackberry crumble and chocolate Cheesecake followed. Highly recommended.
