What a shame - an historic coaching inn, once a pleasant place for lunch or evening drinks with friends has benn ruined with television screens. Who came up with that idea? Surely part of the idea of going out is to get away from screens and actually interact with each other? Fortunately there are plenty of other places to go in Ripon that do not consider rolling news, or endless football indispensable to enjoyment.

Stayed here for one night, nice room, very comfortable bed, great central location and nice pub / bar area. Sorry to say terrible breakfast service. Sat down in dining area at 9am when just 6 people in the breakfast room so hardly busy. Waited for 10 minutes before food / drinks order taken and then waited another 50 minutes for food to arrive. By this time 15 people in the dining area so again hardly busy, two tables who arrived well after us were served before us and when food finally arrived no apology for slow service and one of our breakfasts was wrong ! Not impressed at all.

Great location, price (book direct with hotel), and fantastic breakfast (gluten free options available). Friendly staff.

When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by a member of staff and shown to our room. The room itself was very pleasant and obviously had had a new bathroom with a walk-in shower which was lovely. The room was very quiet and the bed was very comfortable. Slept well. Breakfast was really tasty and the service was great. The staff were welcoming and polite. Would definitely stay again!

The room was not clean, the shower was mouldy, and the bed was awful. Dust and peeling paint everywhere. Good location, close to town and walking distance to many shops and restaurants. The only redeeming experience - the breakfast was excellent.

We stayed here for 1 night room 6 The hotel is in a good place close to everything but the room wasnt very clean dust everywhere even on top of the shower head.The windows were dirty the fridge was dirty we didnt get in the bed just slept on top of it.The parking was ok round the back of the hotel.The only thing which was good was the breakfast but you need to change the streaky bacon too much fat.The staff were nice and friendly.

Great food and selection of real ales, we stayed 3 nights, 2 couples, made to feel very welcome by all the staff and the Yorkshire breakfast is a must. The building may be old and quirky but it has so much charachter. Situated between the market place and the cathedral it is idealy placed for exploring the city of Ripon and the surrounding area.

Lovely sized room. Nice large comfy bed. Room was clean and mirrors well placed near plugs, which makes a nice change Towels were very good quality. Breakfast was lovely with good choice. Staff all friendly. Would definitely stay again if visit Ripon.

Stayed here for one night in March 2024. Have stayed here previously 11 years ago, so thought I'd give it a go again. It was good then and it's even better now. Great room and lovely ale. Great service as well. The location is excellent, loads of places to eat and drink in very close proximity and of course the cathedral. Breakfast was really good. The area that you park your car in could be improved a bit though. Excellent value for money though at ￡115 BnB on a Friday night.

Excellent, the building is old and quirky but the young staff are friendly, pleasant and good at the job of looking after thier guests. Meals are exvellent and a good range of real ales. We have just left this morning 05/02/24 and have already booked again for later this year. Joshua Brown
