We LOVED The Townsend. Super warm and cozy room. We booked the suite and had such a lovely time. The property is beautiful.

Beautiful hotel in Birmingham, an upscale area
With restaurants and shops. I would call the Townsend a 4.5 hotel, not quite a Ritz, but way above a nice Marriott. The bed was the most comfortable bed ever, the staff responsive, the room well designed and the bathroom lovely. The shower was not strong.

No where was I informed before making this reservation that their signature restaurant The Rugby Grille was closed for a remodel. Then their amazing High Tea is now NOT offered. The bar is now temporarily located in what used to be a beautiful lobby… Why did I pay all that money???!!!

Staff was great and helpful. Rooms and the hotel need some upgrades considering it is a 4-star hotel and is supposed to be a luxury property. It also smelled a bit old.

Fantastic quality room, dry clean and spacious. The only improvement I could suggest is to have some flatter bed pillows as the ones on the bed are too “fat” to sleep on.

1) I wish there were more non-valet, over-night parking options.

The room was beautiful! I happen to comment that the last time we stayed at the Townsend was for our wedding in October 1994. When we got back to our room at the end of the day there was a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries with a personal note welcoming us back!

It was fabulous. The room was super clean and nice. The staff was wonderful and attentive. I can’t wait to return.

It’s totally overrated. Rooms are old and old style. It’s absolutely overpriced for what it is. Not even breakfast is included. The shower gel and shampoo is still in tiny, cheap bottles instead of big environmentally-friendly bottles with pumps, which is standard now in environmentally conscious high end hotels. This hotel has stopped evolving decades ago. Also single use cups only for tea / coffee at the coffee station in the lobby.

The service was great, the hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. I love the hotel! The only suggestion I have for the hotel is to add recycling bins in the rooms or perhaps on each floor in the main corridor. This would allow customers the option to help sort our garbage and trash (plastic, paper, cardboard), especially since the rooms do provide bottled water.
