Disappointed with the overall experience. The room decor was tired and needs revamping. One light only going in the room. On sitting on chair back was broken. After showering water seeped onto floor and floor became slippery. Toilet had to be flushed twice after use. I understand tea/coffee/milk is complimentary however a bit more milk would be nice.On booking through this website checkout time was stated as being befor 11. However on arrival was told checkout was at 10. For me personally the only plus was it's location. I would not use this hotel again.

Very old and rundown building
Bed was very uncomfortable because can feel the gap between the two beds

The location was ideal.
Although we went to use the in room telephone, it was not connected, and there was no sign of a connection cable.....
We had an 11a.m. checkout when I reserved the room.
On the information sheet we got on arrival, check out was 10a.m.
When we quiered the conflict. The receptionist made it sound like she was doing us a favor ??

Huge rooms, the biggest I've had in New Zealand, however the room was sparsely furnished so they could have made better use of the space which was effectively wasted. For instance there were no chairs to sit in. A pair of chairs with a side table would really make a difference. Its a historic hotel but very much 'faded grandeur', however I knew when I booked that the hotel wasn't the most modern and that was ok as I wanted that historic feel. It's not everyday that you stay inthe same hotel that Queen Elizabeth did (in 1953). The bed was comfortable, the shower hot (a huge bathroom too) and the staff were helpful. Great location right in the city centre too.

The hotel is old-fashioned, but if you want to stay only one night is alright. Everything, what I needed was close enough.
The staff was helpful and friendly.

Interesting hotel in the historical building with the huge ceiling! Spacious room, very friendly and helpful staff. About 10 min walking from central station
