We traveled throughout Italy on a two week vacation and stayed in Florence, Vernazza, Sorrento, and Rome. Of all the beautiful places we stayed, Casa Cato had the most amazing view and one that we will remember for a lifetime. While it was a bit of a hike up to the hotel (about 10 mins up lots of steep steps carrying 3 suitcases and 2 backpacks for 2 people), the views from the room and the covered patio made the trek well worth the effort. The hotel is actually located right on the public walking path that leads South from Vernazza to the next town of Corniglia. Our room was small - no room to unpack our luggage but very clean and recently updated. The patio attached to the side of the hotel was the perfect place to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner. The food was delightful and prepared daily by the owner and her family. The only issue we had leading up to our stay was around the communication for checking in. There is no front desk, so essentially the owner sends you a short video with the room key code access as well as walking directions to the hotel from the train stop in Vernazza. We were a little concerned about the check-in process and how everything was going to work out but everything turned out just fine. If you’re considering a visit to Cinque Terre, we highly recommend staying at Casa Cato in Vernazza.
