To celebrate our wedding, six of us ate at The Avenue restaurant, where chef Tom Hamblet and his crew treated us to a superb tasting meal with matching wines. It was a real treat. I’m sure it will soon be a Michelin starred restaurant. The hotel itself is gorgeous and although a beautiful character building, has all mod cons! The staff were attentive and kind. A stay in a beautiful setting.

From someone whose culinary skills run as far as the slow cooker, today’s class in soufflé making was a revelation. Tom managed to peel away all the worry and concern in a very enjoyable session where a delicious double cheese and then a raspberry soufflé were made and eaten! The kitchen and set up were excellent with Tom answering all questions and demonstrating various techniques in a convivial atmosphere. Highly recommended

We went for a tasting menu at The Avenue and stayed overnight in the Oak room. The meal was delicious and we opted to have matching wines. We enjoyed Tom Hamblet's cooking. The staff were all very welcoming. We had a couple of niggles with our room but the staff did their best to fix the problems straight away and made note of things to do when we had vacated our room. We used our satnav to get there which took us a very narrow back road from near Oliver's Battery via the village of Sparsholt itself. We made the decision to go home a more major route. Unfortunately it rained both days so we did not explore the grounds.

A truly beautiful post-Christmas stay. This was our second visit, and once again we were not disappointed. Room We stayed in one of the smaller (but still very spacious) rooms called Hydrangea, located on the top floor. The room has a lovely barn-like feel, with a stunning bathroom, a TV positioned perfectly at the end of the bath, an outstanding rain shower, and an extremely comfortable bed. The view was beautiful and added to the overall sense of calm and luxury. Bar The Cedar Bar is excellent. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and make perfect cocktails. There’s also an impressive wine selection—ask for the wine menu, as it isn’t automatically brought to the table. Food Fantastic food throughout our stay. We dined in the Well House as the Avenue restaurant was closed at the time. It’s the only hotel we know of where all food is cooked over wood fires. Steaks, fish, and plenty of options to suit all tastes—everything was cooked beautifully. Ambience This hotel is charming, elegant, and set in a wonderfully peaceful country setting. It’s dog-friendly (we didn’t bring one ourselves), and all dogs were very well behaved—you hardly noticed them until they quietly wandered past or rested in the bar, always on leads. Dogs aren’t permitted in the Avenue for dinner or breakfast (headed by MasterChef winner Tom Hamblet), but they are welcome in the Well House, led by Head Chef Tom Younger. We would absolutely return again. Christmas gave it a different feel of charm.

I recently ate the Wellhouse restaurant and it was fantastic! We had the burnt ends, venison, beef cheek and finished with the chocolate fondant - all I highly recommend! The Wellhouse team Tom, Michael and Alex were amazing!

Another lovely stay! We try and make a yearly visit to Lainston which feels like a home away from home for us. So lovely to see Rhona again at Breakfast - She is the best! Food was delicious. Always love staying in our favourite suite Begonia which is stunning. Wish we could have stayed longer!

January is miserable - and having a birthday in early January even moreso. Unless, that is, you’ve been treated to a culinary stay at Lainston House for said birthday. Every single member of staff, our room, the hotel grounds, the food, the service, was absolutely on point. The two of us and our children were made to feel so welcome and looked after. The true highlight of our stay was the chef’s table experience in the Avenue. The team were just amazing - each and every staff member made the whole evening a special one that we won’t ever forget. Tom was a total gem. Our kids loved him. We loved him! His energy and passion were tangible - and his food was out of this world. We will watch with keen interest his continued rise in the culinary world. THANK YOU to everyone at Lainston House for making the whole weekend one to remember. We will return - be sure of that. Probably when it’s warm and sunny though so we can enjoy the beautiful grounds and surroundings a little more!

We have been fortunate to stay at Lainston House on several occasions and what keeps bringing us back is the wonderful staff, amazing food and relaxing atmosphere. I’ve read many of the reviews on here, most very positive and some very negative. The key thing I’d say is it’s an old building, so some things are not perfect, but if what you are looking for is an experience that makes you feel special, looked after, with wonderful food and that leaves you with great memories then Lainston House is hard to beat. On our latest visit, even with some new faces, the team was still as friendly and welcoming as always - Gerry and Dani on reception, Carys and Rhiannon in The Avenue, Shaun and his excellent cocktails in the bar and Tom, Alberto, Holly, Ed, Lauren, Harry & Toby at Chef's table - all contributed to making our time at Lainston so pleasurable, again. We had an incredible meal, and wine flight, with Tom, Alberto and the team. I said to Tom on the evening that I didn't think he could improve his dishes any more, but how wrong I was! He has elevated the menu to even greater heights - the Turbot dish is an absolute triumph and a real standout, the best dish we have ever eaten. The Agnolotti was superb, with the Chicken Consommé to die for. The cheese course was such a delightful surprise, so very clever, and most importantly absolutely delicious! Tom, Alberto and team are so generous with their time and knowledge, and if you want to ‘push the boat out’ it makes the Chef’s Table experience a ‘must do’! I see that The Avenue is now in the Michelin Guide, my guess is that Star can't be far away! Thank you to you all.

I booked the Hotel for a nice weekend away with my partner and opted for a 'Luxe' room. On arrival the house really does blow you away, the outsite grounds are gorgeous and you think, this must be worth the money. Unfortuately, once you step inside, this is where the feeling quickly disappears. The new receptionist who greeted us didn't exactly give us the warm welcome we might have hoped for. Maybe she was new, but we felt like a burden to her. Slightly cold, stand offish and really - not front of house material. Anyway, we were shown to our allocated room "Holly" and wound our way through the maze to get there. Alarm bells should have started to ring immediately with the interor decor of the place, the wallpaper carpet decisions are outdated and clash awfully. This isn't Luxury. Never the less, we were shown our room and my heart sank. This is supposed to be a Luxury Hotel and a "luxe " room at that. Stained Chair fabric, scratched table, scratched tired sideboards, same appalling wallpaper, no mini bar. It really feels like a Travellodge. The bed was actually very comfortable and the large bath was made use of. But my overriding feeling is that if they spend half as much effort on the interor of the house as they obviously do on the exterior, then they would have a winning formula. Majorly in need of a deisgn update and a complete rethink. Also the lighting in the dining room is so bright that, despite the really delicious food; the ambience is lost and a non-starter. Lose the spotlights, dim it down and be what you want to be. A Michelin starred place. Work for be done, won't be returning for a while.

Great service at Laintone House, especially from the receptionist Jerry — very friendly.
However, the room had loud noises at night, like water or flushing sounds coming from other rooms, which should be improved.
Overall, it was a good experience.
