Had an absolutely wonderful stay at Lainston House, from arriving Gerry on reception was truly wonderful, the room was splendid, but most of all the we had an amazing experience in The Wellhouse, the whole evening was made special from the atmosphere and surroundings and particularly the food prepared and cooked by Big Tom, Little Tom, Micheal and the helped by his servers Layla and Josyan. This place is a must to visit. Definitely deserves 5 stars or even 1 ‘special’ one.

We had a short two night stay. The suite was impressive, well appointed and spotless. We didn't sample the tasing menu but the bar menu was excellent as was the breakfast. All the staff were lovely, with just the right unobtrusive attentiveness that made us feel comfortable. Its only a 3.5 mile cab ride into Winchester if you don't want to try and park. We would certainly return in the warmer weather so that we could explore the extensive grounds.

Outstanding on every level. Our room was perfection, the best room we have ever stayed in! But the best part were the people working there.. the service was superb. Gerry checked us in and showed us our room and was brilliant. The highlight of our stay was our evening at the WellHouse..... what a place! Every single bit of food was delicious - a true culinary experience. A huge shout out to the knowledge and passion of Chef Big Tom and his team - Little Tom and Michael and the wonderful servers Layla and Josyan. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!

Myself and my best friend came for the Avenue restaurants tasting menu. I have no words. The BEST food I’ve ever had. It’s 9 courses of the most perfectly curated cuisine. Everything was excellent…the service was gold standard, drinks were exceptional and the ambiguous was luxury. I’m very impressed. If you’re thinking about it, just do it.

Exceptionnelle maison de campagne anglaise avec un charme fou et un personnel souriant et très agréable et professionnel. Chambre spécieuse et confortable , propre et bien équipée . Le petit déjeuner est correcte sans être exceptionnel. En résumé, nous avons passé un agréable séjour et pouvons sans problème y retourner pour cette fois profiter du restaurant qui semble très intéressant .

We had a wonderful time at the Lainston House. The hotel itself is beautiful but what sets it apart is the staff and the food! Both were absolutely exceptional. The Sunday roast in the Wellhouse is simply incredible as is the Avenue restaurant. Ask for the Vivanco Rioja you won’t be disappointed.

What a wonderful experience! I came for my Birthday with my husband and from start to finish felt pampered and spoilt! Thank you for an amazing weekend, the food, the room and the team were all first class, even the other residents were just so friendly and lovely, especially Paul and his wife who we met dining in The Avenue, celebrating a very special Anniversary! On leaving, we stopped at Stockbridge where there was a classic car event and more excellent dining! Thank you, we will definitely be back!

A magical hotel with wonderful dining experiences and a fantastic team who make you feel welcome and special. This was our 40th wedding anniversary and although the Lainston House comes with a 5 star price it provides value at every turn. On our first night we had the tasting menu in the Avenue Restaurant. It was sublime. On our second night we experienced the Wellhouse Restaurant and enjoyed the best Porterhouse Steak I’ve ever eaten. Breakfast each morning was excellent and served in a such a calm setting that it was almost therapeutic. The hotel also offers free to use good quality mountain bikes - which we used to cycle 15kms around the beautiful countryside surrounding Lainston House. They also offer the use of a Tandem Bike which we tried, but only around the hotel grounds!! Lainston House also has a gym and tennis courts although on this visit we ran out of time to try them out. A first class hotel operated by a wonderful team of people. And a particular shout out to Gerry from Guest Relations. She was brilliant and such a wonderful advert for the hotel and the group.

This is an excellent hotel. I have stayed here with my wife and also as part of a small business meeting. Beautiful location, very comfortable and well equipped rooms, outstanding staff/ attention to detail and delicious food. Well done to all the management and team here.

Handsome old pile in acres of grounds, and only a few miles from Winchester city centre. Plenty of parking, although it's best to drive to the main entrance when loading/unloading luggage. Certainly fulfilled the remit of an elegant country house as far as we were concerned, and was commendably well-maintained and cared-for considering its size and visitor throughput. We stayed just prior to Christmas so it was very pleasing to see all the efforts that were made to turn the public areas into something appropriately festive. We had a very comfortable suite about as far away from Reception as it was possible to be. We went down so many corridors and up so many stairs we should have thrown down a trail of breadcrumbs to find our way back to the main entrance. It was worth it when we got there. We found ourselves in a large comfortable room at the top of our particular wing. It was tastefully modernised with exposed joists, rafters and brickwork, and had a large lounge area with all the amenities, and period-style furniture containing more than ample storage. The uncanopied four poster bed had a soft, thick mattress and sleeping was no problem, particularly as our location was so quiet. With shutters instead of curtains there was no chance of pesky light getting in either. We liked the unusual modern and scrupulously clean bathroom with its heated floor and standalone tub. The separate and capacious wet room had a rain head shower and side jet facilities. Sadly, it was also the feeblest shower ever. The water pressure was almost non-existent on every occasion, unlike the volume of air turning blue whilst I was trying to use it. Our other bathroom niggle was the really foul, dank tap water which was undrinkable and probably explains why free tins (!) of water were made available each day. Separately, we used espresso mugs as toothbrush holders in lieu of anything else. Breakfast is taken in the Avenue restaurant, although a roomier but less evocative room is also used adjacently. I enjoyed the very civilised and good quality english breakfast and wished that I'd asked for fried bread to go with it; a request often granted. The standard components of the continental breakfast option were on display just outside in the main thoroughfare to Reception, which seemed rather odd. We liked the cheerful antipodean girl running things and her band of willing servers were most efficient too. We made a few visits to the bar during our visit. Service was less organised and not overly dynamic. No beer on draught but, not surprisingly, a vast range of certain spirits. We used both restaurants here too. You would be silly not too. The staff on Reception were friendly and helpful. Note that your bill gets e-mailed prior to departure. Minor blips aside, we enjoyed our stay and the hotel provided a perfect base for our short stay in the area.
