We recently went to Number 12 for breakfast. We've been going there for years. We were surprised to find that they've recently started to add a 10% service charge to the bill. We've always left a tip in the past and object to this practice which is spreading rapidly in East Lothian and Edinburgh. We didn't pay the 10%. We are starting to avoid establishments who add this charge.

Nice room, all good. The food was excellent, the staff were welcoming and friendly. Service was prompt and polite would recommend. The free car park behind the hotel was very handy. The town looked interesting, we were on a trip back from the highlands so only stayed the one night

Stayed here for 3 nights. Very comfortable and good food (breakfasts and dinner). Had to swap rooms after one night as told when booking that the first one already booked for full duration of our stay. Staff transfered our luggage. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had thought that it might be noisy due to bistro and outside seating above bedrooms, but it was pretty quiet. Nice location and town.

Such a wonderful place to stay. Staff were so helpful and kind and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast and dinner were so good. Hotel was so clean and seemed very newly refurbished. Highly recommended for a stay in North Berwick and short walk to train station with links to Edinburgh.

Great location , comfortable rooms and beds and well cooked breakfast . We would have preferred more continental options but clearly breakfasts were popular as many locals ate there. Well appointed and nice outdoor areas too . North Berwick is a great place .

My wife and I had a two night stay at this excellent hotel. It is in a superb location, just a two minute walk to the harbour, and beach, and at the start of the High Street. There is also free car parking just a minutes walk away. Our room was a decent size and provided us with everything we required for our stay. There was a good selection at Breakfast and everything was cooked beautifully. An indicator of how good the breakfast is, is the number of locals eating here. We didn't have dinner here, eating elsewhere with friends, but the restaurant was busy on both nights we stayed. In fact the restaurant was busy throughout the whole day serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. We definitely recommend No. 12 and will certainly be back.

This is a beautiful property with employees who were incredibly kind and helpful to us. The included breakfast was amazing! Our room was large and lovely! It was so nice to be able to open our windows and let the sea air in! Location is very close to the sea, shopping, pubs and restaurants.

The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast excellent. The staff were very helpful. The hotel was in a very good location in the town. Just a few minutes to the beaches, the harbour and the lovely main shopping street. I would definitely stay here again, especially as there was free parking nearby.

Overall, this was a wonderful stay in a beautiful hotel. The room is beautiful, the bathroom is beautiful and it was great that they provided a wee step in the bathroom as it helped getting into the shower. The restaurant is beautiful, and I loved that it is dog friendly. That is the overall summary - so now a slight wee breakdown on the stay.... The bedroom is slightly small, so we would say though that it is perfect if you are staying for a short stay ie 1 - 3 nights, after that you may begin to find it slightly claustrophobic. However, there may well be larger rooms in the hotel - we honestly couldn't say? The bathroom is rather compact too but, end of day, it serves its purpose & it is very beautiful. Both bedroom & bathroom was very clean & the bed was so so comfy!! There is no lift, so be prepared for hiking up the stairs if you are on the 2nd floor, and believe me - the burn will be real HaHa In all seriousness, they simply cannot put a lift in the hotel so really cannot use that against them. The restaurant is beautiful, it is cosy, it is clean & it is dog friendly!! The meal that we had in the evening was great, thoroughly enjoyed it and our breakfast was amazing!! Only thing I would say is, it can be compact when busy but it is how it is, and I certainly wouldn't mark them down for that!! All the staff that we came across were polite, helpful & very welcoming!! Particularly the older gentleman that we spoke to in the evening & morning!! What stops this fae being a 5/5 - simply the cost, ￡160 for the night was too much and sadly, we felt for that price, we simply did not get full value for that money.
