DISAPPOINTED After an eight hour journey, with 150 miles of the M5 in a predominantly stop start mode, it would be nice to say that the hotel made the journey worthwhile but I am afraid to say this hotel was a big disappointment. Room access was not until 5pm - apparently because we booked with a booking web site and not direct with the hotel! I wonder if they know their clients are being treated as effectively second class citizens. At booking in, we were read the rules. It was reminiscent of arriving in a boarding school rather than at an adults only boutique hotel. We were told that only snacks, food and alcohol bought on the premises could be consumed in the hotel, including bedrooms. If this was abused we may be asked to leave and we would not receive a refund. In addition, the owner took a pre-payment impression of £100 on my credit card “in case you damage the room!” I have never been asked for this before and was concerned that an unfounded attempt to retain it would be made after we left without any ability to challenge any alleged damage. I would recommend you to read their terms and conditions, although there are some inaccuracies, before you book. I wish I had done that. I won’t get caught again in the future. We booked a deluxe room with a sea view. The main feature of the room is the beautiful sea view but beyond that the rest of the room was not great. The en-suite bathroom is very small. It has the smallest washbasin I have seen in an en-suite. It is virtually impossible to wash one’s face / remove shave foam etc. without using a flannel especially as the LED mirror above it inevitably sticks out a couple of inches. The bed is probably a normal size double but coming from a king size at home it seemed very narrow. There is a rainfall shower but no separate hand shower piece for specific washing so a cold start to the shower until it warms up! When it arrives the hot water is a good temperature and plentiful. There is a light and extractor in the en-suite that is activated by going into the room. This is okay during the day but for visits in the night it lights up the room disturbing the other person and stays on for around five minutes. There are Venetian blinds on the window - the type that sits between the two panes of glass - but all of the slats don’t fully close and there are no curtains, so the room is quite bright from before sunrise in the summer. We ate in the hotel’s Bistro restaurant but, for some unknown reason in an English hotel, they mainly serve tapas dishes on small plates. The recommendation is that you choose three each at circa £10 - £12 each for small dishes. After a full day travelling I would have preferred a more usual meal although to be fair the food we had was well cooked and tasty. The next issue was that the hotel restaurant is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday so alternative eating arrangements are necessary. We did not know this in advance and it still doesn’t mention this online or we probably w

Owners seem offish. Room was small but very clean. If you are expecting hearty breakfast forget it. To be honest not a very welcoming place to stay. We broke our key fob and they debited our bank account with £25 for a replacement without advising us that they were going to do so, would have been common courtesy to advise us. We have no problem with paying for a replacement but annoyed that they did not advise us. We had told them what had happened but they just shrugged their shoulders. Would not recommend this glorified B&B.

Stayed for 5 nights, good location, with parking, lovely balcony to have meals on. Evening meals (tapas) were first class. Very clean well decorated. Had a little problem getting in contact on our arrival. We were up the stairs but did have help from the owner. If you had mobility issues the stairs could be a problem as they are steep. It was nice to have no smoking, no vapeing and no animals as I have allergies. Steam trains were good fun and just over a mile walk from the hotel. The ferries were a similar distance with lots of trips you can take.

I was wowed by the level of transformation. The place was closed for some time, I heard it's back in business so I decided to visit... My God!! What a transformation, it's completely new.

We had an indulgent stay in the Preston Shoreline Suite, boasting it's own private balcony. With its uninterrupted panoramic view of Torbay it was perfect for the annual airshow. Our second stay here didn't disappoint, with Peter and Ruth's warm and inviting welcome we couldn't want for anything else from our stay. Our next stay has already been booked and looking forward to it.
