The Cavern is a national treasure, we have spent 5 holidays as a young family here and feel so fortunate to experience this amazing resort. There’s nothing to fault or critique, a fantastic place to relax and enjoy nature with your loved ones. We pray for many more years of visiting and enjoying the finest South African hospitality and heritage.

The Holiday Resort of Many Happy Returns" says it all! The entire experience at this hotel is 5*. Nestled in the green green mountains you'll find a gem! The hotel & gardens are well maintained, rooms newly painted & renovated, quality of food is absolutely exceptional, and the happy & helpful & willing staff just add to the wonderful experience. Nothing is too much for them. It is clearly evident that the hotel is owner managed. It is so refreshing to find a hotel like this. This is our 5th visit and there will still be many more for us.

Another amazing stay at the Cavern. As usual the service and food were incredible, the rooms were clean, comfortable and well looked after. Really enjoyed the hiking and activities in the surrounding area. Will definitely be coming back again.

This holiday destination is a little piece of heaven on earth. Soak up the nature, peace and tranquility. The owners are extremely nice and always prepared to go the extra mile. The food is delicious and nutritious. The staff are friendly and helpful. There are lovely daily guided walks in the mountains. This place is a real.gem!",!

The Cavern offers all, great indoor and outdoor facilities. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, prepared and served with great care, by dedicated staff. Beautiful surroundings, with great views, and nice hiking possibilities. Also the Spa treatments are a treat from excellent quality, in a special surrounding.

Une nuit décembre 2025. Chambre 59. Chambre sympathique avec douche et baignoire. Restauration de bon niveau. Personnel avenant. Lieu calme en pleine nature avec de nombreuses activités. Pas de wifi dans les chambres (dommage en 2025). Un lieu à découvrir.

This was our second stay at The Cavern, but the first time our young son joined us – and it made the experience even more special. Having travelled widely around the world, I can honestly say that The Cavern remains one of the finest and most memorable places we’ve ever stayed. The hospitality is what truly sets it apart. Every detail feels carefully thought through, from the warm welcome and beautifully designed spaces to the pre-dinner gatherings, scenic walks, and lovely sense of community among guests. The entire team shows a deep understanding of what makes people feel happy and cared for. Service throughout was exceptional. Neh, our wonderful waiter, remembered our preferences from day one, the kitchen team were just as attentive, and the chef even came to check on us personally. In the nursery, Bongi and the team were fantastic with our son – they got to know him so quickly, and it was hard for them to say goodbye when we left. Even housekeeping showed such intelligence and care in the way they looked after our room. Seeing Megan, Hilton, and the rest of the family always adds to that sense of warmth – it genuinely feels like staying in someone’s home. The wines, bar, and spa offerings were excellent and sensibly priced, which made us feel even more welcome to enjoy them. From start to finish, everything was smooth, comfortable, and full of genuine care. The Cavern is a true example of exemplary hospitality, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit.

I now live in Australia and returned to the Cavern after 17 years to find The Cavern better than ever. Accommodation, service, dining, hiking and other activities were outstanding. I look forward to returning when I next visit SA.

Our stay at the Cavern Resort & Spa was great, not just because it was in the Drakensberg but also because of the great people we met, the staff was very welcoming and friendly, the facilities were good, it was just a once in a lifetime experience.
