Last minute getaway, lovely recently refurbished hotel, we had a room at the front, noise from the traffic on the A66 was a pain, BUT that’s only because we live middle of nowhere and half mile off a B road, so we notice traffic noice! The room was excellent, bedding lush & bathroom spotless etc, Had evening meal in restaurant 3 courses and 3 drinks each, reasonably priced totally delish food, the female staff are lovely and attentive, breakfast was excellent, but once it was gone on the continental table, it was gone! Not replaced, Shame… we are pretty local, and would defo visit again highly recommend

The most striking aspect of our stay at the Ruddings was that no one made us feel welcome or seemed interested in us. Staff hardly ever said hello to us and we were asked just once how our day had been. On the one occasion where I tried to engage a staff member in a more meaningful conversation, a more senior staff member cut across us and told that staff member that there were other things that needed doing. Now while that may have been true, there are ways of communicating things that do not alienate your guests. We also encountered the following message in our room which read “ Please do not take the mugs home or you will be charged”. It’s worth saying that I haven’t come across such a hostile message in any of the numerous hotels I have stayed in around the world. However, it just crystallised the way we were already feeling about the way we had been received in this hotel. Just to show that this isn’t intended to be just a negative review for the sake of it ,it also needs to be said that the breakfast was fine and our room was very nice. However, it is always the staff that give the hotel its character and in this case there is lots of room for improvement.

Our first visit to the Ruddings since the impressive makeover. It has certainly improved, and the food was very good. The fish and chips and curry were excellent. However, the service was poor. When we arrived in the bar the two members of staff were both serving a couple. We waited for one of them to start serving us, but they continued to serve the couple. After we go our drinks we asked for menus and were brought them, but no-one came to take our food order. Once we were seated and our order was taken we asked for the wine list, but had to ask twice before we got it. The restaurant was very noisy - not helped by a low roof and no soft furnishings. The old Middle Ruddings may have been in need of a make-over, but the service was always excellent. Perhaps, given time, the service will improve.

First impressions were Wow! The refurbishment is amazing. Clearly no expense spared by Geoff & team you’ve made a fabulous job, pure quality, luxury & comfort. We stayed for 2 nights and received a very warm welcome on arrival quick check in and explanation of the hotel/facilities & restaurant etc. Beautiful room (no 14) spacious tasteful decor & soft furnishings, very comfortable bed and pillows! Everything we needed. We ate in the restaurant the first evening the food was just delicious, cooked to perfection, well presented. Breakfast was excellent the breakfast pots with raspberries on top were just Wow!! Full English delicious, Avocado on sour dough with chorizo was my favourite! Great selection of cereals & other breakfast items. Absolutely delightful. Thank you to all the staff for their warm welcome and looking after us so well. It was great to see some old faces again. With such a splendid stylish hotel with great staff proving such professional customer service you will be busy always I’m sure!!! Can’t wait to return see you soon x

We stayed here for a long weekend last early August. As well as being externally visually stunning, the interior layout and decor were first class. Very roomy and fresh, it was a delight staying there, it felt very homely and relaxing. I was blown away with the rooms we were given for the duration of our stay. It is very close to both Portinscale and Keswick, only minutes away. The staff were great, friendly and helpful.

A really beautiful, modern restaurant with a lovely outside seating area with a stunning view of the hills. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and welcoming. The food was cooked perfectly - highly recommend the supreme chicken. The deserts we had were also top notch.
