Obviously, our room in The Waves was being refurbished and not yet finished so that it was a bit of a makeshift solution. The ceiling lamp was a naked bulb without a lampshade, the smoke detector was still wrapped in plastic. In the small room that is meant to be a walk-in wardrobe (??), there was no lighting at all. Moreover, there were no hooks – neither in the room nor in that wardrobe – where to hang the jackets. We had to ask explicitly for clothes hangers and a waste paper basket, and a bin and a toilet brush were obviously not meant to be part of the standard equipment in the bathroom. Unfortunately, the heating failed several times (in March) and we constantly had to contact the owners to remedy this deficiency. The TV set did not work. We connected the aerial ourselves and installed the TV channels. Also, the room might be o.k. some day for 2 people but is definitely way too small for 3 adults, as a folding bed had been cramped in for us. Accordingly, due to the resulting necessary shift of the double bed we could not use the sockets (nor one of the bedside lamps). - Parking was available in front of the room's entrance. Breakfast was served in the café; it was sufficient and o.k. Positive mention must be made ofthe extremely friendly young service staff in the café.

Great B&B well located by the sea in Minnis Bay, Birchington on Sea, Kent. Lovely breakfasts and food, very friendly host and staff. Good value, very clean and comfortable rooms. Open 7 days a week and great promenade walks.

We must have stayed at The Waves in Birchington (Kent) over 20 or 30 times by now. It is convenient for our family visits, but most importantly, it is very snug, and the owners and staff are all enthusiastic about helping and making sure you are comfortable. The rooms, currently under renovation, are very tastefully done, extremely clean and frankly just what you need when you are travelling half way across the world. Highly recommended. Great breakfasts too! We will be back, to quote a well-known phrase. Sharon & Dan HKG
